A significant step toward environmental responsibility and community cleanliness has begun in Aalandurai. On 9th July 2025, a collaborative initiative between Aalandurai Town Panchayat and Yaan Foundation was officially launched to tackle one of the most pressing issues faced by our towns today — plastic and non-degradable waste.
What is the initiative about?
This campaign focuses on cleaning the streets and open spaces of Aalandurai by removing plastic bags, bottles, and other waste materials that do not decompose naturally. These materials not only pollute our surroundings but also pose long-term threats to soil, water, and public health.
The launch event was graced by the Town Panchayat Chairperson and the Executive Officer, symbolizing the strong administrative support for the project.
How can residents contribute?
This isn’t just a government or NGO effort — it’s a community mission. Every resident plays a vital role in making this project successful. Here’s how you can help:
-
Avoid littering: Do not throw garbage or plastic items on the streets or in open spaces.
-
Use the waste collection system: When the Panchayat garbage collection vehicle comes, hand over your household waste properly.
-
Spread awareness: Encourage your neighbors, friends, and family to follow clean waste disposal practices.
Why this matters
Improper waste disposal is not just an eyesore; it blocks drainage, harms animals, pollutes our water sources, and causes long-term ecological damage. By taking part in this campaign, we are actively protecting our health, our children’s future, and the beauty of our hometown.
