Supporting Tribal Education – First Phase Initiatives at Nellivasal Tribal School Education is one of the most powerful tools to uplift tribal communities. At Yaan, we have been relentlessly working for several years to support tribal students on their education journey. As part of this commitment, we identified Nellivasal Tribal School in the Jawadhu Hills, Tiruvannamalai region, to provide essential infrastructure and learning support. Many students here come from extremely challenging backgrounds and often lack even the basic facilities needed to focus on their studies. To address these critical needs, we have initiated a phased support program. We are currently in the first phase, with a strong focus on improving their immediate learning and living environment. First Phase Initiatives: • RO Water Purifier Installation: Safe drinking water is fundamental to student health. We have installed RO water purifiers in both the school and the hostel, ensuring access to clean drinking water for all students. • Hostel Infrastructure Support: To create a more comfortable and functional hostel environment, we provided an Electric Inverter System for uninterrupted power supply and supplied essential kitchen utensils and equipment to streamline daily operations. • Support for NEET Aspirants: Several students from the school are preparing for the NEET examination and required to relocate and undergo coaching at a nearby city. To support their focused preparation, we provided them with essential items for comfortable stay including personal care products and stationery materials. • Classroom Furniture: We supplied comfortable chairs for students to improve classroom conditions and create a better learning environment. • Staff Support & Welfare: Recognizing the crucial role of staff in shaping students’ growth and ensuring smooth daily operations, we have deputed two dedicated staff members to support the school. Additionally, we are providing monthly salaries for a cleaning staff member and a temporary cook to maintain hygiene standards and ensure proper nutrition for the students. These first-phase interventions are designed to lay a strong foundation by addressing basic health, safety, and comfort needs. Our support will continue in the upcoming phases with a focus on academic guidance, mentoring, performance-based rewards, higher education scholarships, and further infrastructure development. We remain deeply committed to walking alongside these tribal students as they strive to overcome barriers and realize their full potential.
